I am so glad a friend of mine told me about this gem of a town…

As soon as I stepped up to The Royal Crescent Hotel, time slowed down and I felt immediately as if I had moved hundreds of years into the past.  The setting was right out of a Jane Austen novel -ahem- and my body inherently desired to wear a corset and pine for a lover who wrote endless amounts of poetry…
From the hotels’ dapper doormen, wood burning stone fireplaces, library, suites with views of the rolling hills, and the most beautiful cathedral-esque spa pool I’ve ever seen- I was in heaven.
There is also an incredible peace and stillness that engulfs this place.  I remember sitting in the Dower House restaurant for breakfast one morning staring out the window thinking “I could just sit here for hours”.  In Los Angeles city life, that’s an impossibility.  I also had one the best glasses of wine at the hotel bar, a Domaine Lalaurie Cabernet, maybe it was better- and more potent- because the setting was so charming?
When my husband and I explored town we visited the stunning green, ancient Roman Baths– I was tempted to take off my clothes and jump in but alas I was not allowed so I opted for a finger dip instead- shh!  For lunch I enjoyed a gluten free pizza (which I was pleasantly surprised to find) and my first glass of true English Cider at The Stable restaurant.  Hard English cider is served still (flat) and at room temperature and this one tasted a bit like musky wood flavored water, which I apparently have an affinity for.  My husband and I also decided to spend a little extra cash and hire a private driver to take us to Stonehenge- which is a must see- the hotel set everything up and it was worth every penny.  Traveling the English countryside in the privacy and comfort of our own car on our own schedule, we avoided the majority of the crowds (Obama included, he went the same day!) and our driver was practically a tour guide anyway- he dished about the fact that stars like Johnny Depp and Nicolas Cage have homes here.  All in all, I cannot wait to visit this quaint little town again, it gets two thumbs up from me!
