In the Wizard of Oz Dorothy is off to see the Wizard, the magical Wizard that will get her back home where she belongs. When she finally gets to Emerald City she wakes up to the fact that it’s all just smoke and mirrors, there is no Magical Wizard. There is just a man, hiding behind a curtain, acting all-knowing and powerful and spreading his propaganda.
Our world is much like this today. We think that there is some powerful all-knowing person taking care of our world and that they have our best interests in mind. We hope they will save us from having to do the work ourselves. But in 2017 we are pulling the curtain back and quickly seeing that the people running the world- the ones with the power- are humans just like us. With wants, and fears, and needs, and agendas of their own. They’re not worried about saving us- how could they be? They’re worried about themselves, just like we’re worried about ourselves. And until we realize this, we will continue to be disillusioned and gullible.
In the end Glenda the Good Witch tells Dorothy she always had the power to go home, she just had to learn it for herself. This has been my favorite line for as long as I can remember. It reminds me that we all have the ability to go home- into our hearts to remember our true nature. When we go inward we don’t need any false Wizards, gurus, elite business men, corrupt governments or the 1 percent, to drive our ship. We take our power back.
When love and truth become the most important things to us, others will follow. Because that’s the most real thing there is. Love begets love. And light snuffs out darkness, every time.
